For a typical office-based business, an estimated 1%, 9%, and 90% of annual business expenditure is devoted to energy, rent, and staff, respectively. While much attention has been devoted towards reducing building energy consumption through the sustainable buildings movement, and many market drivers influence commercial rental rates, historically, little attention has been devoted to supporting worker performance, health, and wellbeing, despite staff being the main business expenditure and several studies citing billions of dollars in economic losses due to impaired worker health and performance.
