41% of the Indian population still relies on biomass for cooking, emitting 340 million tonnes of CO2

Quoting from a recent study entitled "India's Transition to E-cooking" by the independent think tank Centre for Science and Environment, we learn that 41% of the Indian population still uses wood, cow dung or other biomass as cooking fuel.

The cumulative effect of all this is that around 340 million tonnes of CO2 is emitted into the environment every year, representing c.13% of India's greenhouse gas emissions. Calls for greater access to cleaner fuels for cooking seem to be falling on deaf ears.
